I’m sure everyone in Mauritius has heard about this well known place but I
only discovered this lovely casual restaurant/bar about 2 years ago and since then
I’ve been there numerous times with friends and family.
The Beach House is located directly on the beach facing the
blue lagoon of Grand Baie, North of the island. It’s the perfect place for
sunset cocktails as well as lazy weekend lunches and this time we went for
Sunday lunch to celebrate my early birthday.
It’s always packed during evenings and weekends so best to book in advance and also see
if you can get one of the tables right next to the beach so you enjoy the
picturesque view in all its glory! We got there nice and early on Sunday.
The Interior
There’s no menus here except a giant chalkboard on the wall.
Though it’s a nice idea, it may be a bit annoying for some if it’s their first
visit and they're not quite seated where they can view it. Anyway, they
have a wide variety and the portion sizes are very generous and when I say generous, it
really is!! Their signature burger ‘The Juicy Lucy’ is huge!! and enough to
feed two. The starters are also good portion sizes perfect for sharing.
On this day, we chose a range of snack plates, the chicken
strips, veg nachos, and buffalo wings to share.
Half eaten nachos lol
Nice sticky and sweet buffalo wings
I always tend to order the espetadas (grilled meat or prawn
on huge hanging skewers) so I decided to try their lamb shank on a bed of mash
potato. Taste was good but the meat was a little tough and didn’t slide off
the bone like I was expecting. This was also a huge portion and sadly didn’t
manage to finish it. The others ordered The 'Juicy Lucy' burger and prawn espetada. The prawns on
this skewer are gigantic, don’t they look sooo good?!
There’s no fancy presentations here but when the food looks
and tastes great, who really cares?!
You have the perfect view and ambiance and it’s a great
place for families as it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The weather was
overcast when we arrived but we managed to get some sunshine and the kids
played by the beach and we took some great photos.
Food isn’t the cheapest but I guess you're paying for the
location and the amazing views across the bay.
I, myself don’t come here very often (as I'm not based in the North) but it’s definitely on
the to-go-list when we have friends and families over.
TIPS:
- Best to book in advance as the place is a full house both
in the evenings and weekends
- Service is a little slow so don’t go on an empty stomach
- I haven’t been myself but there’s an upper deck with
amazing views over the bay, it must be great at sundown.
Who's tried other dishes from here and what do you recommend?
