DECORATE YOUR HOME WITH PLANTS

The Pantone 2017 Colour of the year is 'Greenery' which is a refreshing and revitalising shade. Whether it means you embrace the colour itself literally or introduce it through plants in the home, it is the perfect way to add a breath of fresh air into your space.

Today, I am talking about the flora variety. I recently introduced some plants (both real and faux) into the home and I'm keen to introduce more! Just a few simple plants have instantly liven up the home and has added colour and texture to an otherwise very neutral coloured space.

Houseplants also improve air quality, are easy to care for, require minimal time and most importantly when positioned correctly, can truly make a space. They also have a positive effect on our moods, emotions and well-being.

You can add greenery into little unused areas like windowsills, corners, open shelves and even walls. I currently have a few in my living/dining space and I've positioned them on shelves and in dead spaces. My big fern is positioned near the window as I've been told it needs a lot of light to thrive. I would definitely like to have some hanging terrariums too but I'm not sure if it's possible with our false ceiling... They are not very heavy so it should be possible I guess...

Orchids are on my list too. I prefer the cymbidium variety rather than the phalaenopsis but I think they are both absolutely gorgeous and makes a space so much prettier!

Another plant I've been eyeing is the fiddle leaf fig but I don't think you can get it here... It's popular with a lot of bloggers I follow and I think both the tree and plant versions look so lush!

Also I've seen many Eucalyptus on instagram. It's simple, versatile and inexpensive and smells wonderful (apparently! I don't know) but again I haven't seen here in Mauritius.

Cacti and succulents are a great option for those looking for something low maintenance. They require minimal watering and are hardy and durable.

For those of you who don't have green fingers, you can always incorporate greenery by adding some faux flowers and plants. They are a hassle-free alternative and involve no maintenance whatsoever. I have some faux magnolias on my dining table and they instantly add a fresh touch and I literally don't need to do anything to them. I also bought some faux succulents which sit nicely on my shelf too.

So since I live on a tropical island I guess my next additions will be orchids and I wouldn't mind a big palm or two... I'll also be getting hold of some succulents and other plants from my inlaws soon.

Go ahead and revitalise your home too!!
